Having a detailed plan in place was what allowed close to 3800 Morgan Stanley employees to escape the infernos of 9/11 in 45 minutes. Had it not been for the earlier 1993 World Trade Center bombing, where it took Morgan Stanley employees 4 hours to evacuate, this success story most probably would not have taken place. It took the company’s poor evacuation performance the first time to highlight the need to have an emergency plan in place. It was a worthy investment.
