Warmer oceans and rising sea levels pose a risk to structures built along the coastline.  With warmer seas providing tropical conditions that allow wind speeds to get to greater intensity and rising sea levels allowing storm surges to go further inland, existing structures are ill equipped to handle today’s challenges.  Financial losses are expected to rise as much as 70% by the year 2100 using the new calculations.
